Total Physio Seminars

At Total Physio we believe that prevention is better than cure. In 2011 we decided to look at the types of injuries that were presenting for treatment and target the most common ones in a series of free workshops. We believe that education about how injuries occur and what can be done to avoid them is a vital and proactive step in keeping yourself niggle free and active.

In keeping with the common injuries we were seeing during the winter we ran a Ski Fit workshop in February. As the weather warmed up, the golfers and runners were out in force and hence starting to make contact again in March so our April series included Fit 4 Golf and Running Fit workshops. To finish the series, we participated in the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists' annual Move For Health campaign and presented the "Common Myths about Back Pain" to one of our most enthusiastic crowds yet.

Myths About Weight Loss - Monday June 13th 2011

To help you in your quest for that toned physique, Total Physio joined forces with Nuala Collins, dietician at Slievemore Clinic, to run a free seminar on Monday 13th June, entitled "Myths about Weight Loss". It was a roaring success! We even ran out of standing room at the back! Nuala discussed 10 ways to help shrink your waistline and shocked us with some unbelievable facts, for example, that half a baguette has the same calorie count as 5 slices of bread and that a chocolate chip muffin contains 11g of fat and 438 calories.

Jenny discussed which exercise best helps you shed those inches with information on cardiovascular workouts and the all important weight training. Quite a bit of discussion ensued when it was learned that weight training improves your post workout metabolism and can actually help you reshape your body. Strategies for preventing injury and proper recovery techniques also provoked some great participation from the audience. It was a great night and we must thank everyone who attended and got so involved. We might have to run this one again!

The April Series

Jenny, Kiera and Sinead presented our April series of 3 free workshops, which were a great success. Our workshops were entitled Fit 4 Golf, Running Fit and Myths about Back Pain. We had lots of participants who got very involved in discussions, taking part in the exercise demos and using the foam rollers on their tender spots! We would like to thank everyone who gave up their Monday evenings to attend and make each workshop so lively and interesting. Some of the feedback from each workshop can be found below.
